Oh, It's Pancake Day

Pancakes, hot cakes, flapjacks, griddle cakes, crepes whatever you want to call them, today is the official day to eat them. It's Mardi Gras. A tradition in my family for many a long while is to eat pancakes for dinner on Mardi Gras.

En francais, Mardi Gras means Fat Tuesday of course.

How about a stack of these babies:

If one were following the traditional religious reason for eating pancakes on Fat Tuesday, one would stuff as many carbo-laden pancakes as possible into one's mouth in preparation for fasting on Ash Wednesday.

But who needs a reason? Everyday could be pancake day as far as I am concerned.

So get in the race and get those flapjacks flapping, those frying pans griddlin' and whip up a batch of delicious pancakes (guilt-free I assure you). You don't mess with tradition.

I always try to cook for the different events, but totally forgot this one. My grandma used to make pancakes smothered with chicken and gravy. So darned good. I'll have to make it one day.

Hubby & I love us some pancakes for supper. The Grands especially enjoy them for supper. Especially when Grandpa makes rabbits or mice! :o)

We don't eat pancakes here on this day, we eat Semlor. A semla is a cardamom bun sliced at the top, the bun is slightly hollowed and filled with almond paste and then it's covered with lots of whipped cream and on top of itall the sliced of topp is placed :-)

Have a great day!

I'm making blueberry pancakes tonight. My Rare One and I will be throwing strands of green, purple and gold beads at each other as well. Our own private Mardi Gras!
