Okie doke, you all must know by now that I positively, absolutely am not a computer techie kind of person, nor do I like change, once I have figured something out!
So now, according to reliable sources, something is changing. The Google Friend Connect widget is going away. All the people who have signed up to follow blogs through this widget will disappear off the blogs. So bloggers are scrambling (or not...) to get other widgets in place for people to sign on to follow.
I read my friend Kim's blog The Wiccan Life today and with her prompting I did my best to get this Linky thing set up. I also added the gadget where you can sign up to receive email notices when the blog has a new post. The Linky Follower gadget is free and you just need an email address to sign on, whether you have a blog or not. It is fairly easy, actually to sign up for it, although at the moment I am having trouble getting my thumbnail photo onto my own i.d.
Oh, here is the link to the Linky follower site: http://www.linkyfollowers.com/
But I don't understand why Google wants to do away with this nice little widget. I am concerned a lot of people may drop out of the blog-o-sphere and have trouble getting back in. At the same time, I am sure that most people are much more computer-savvy then yours truly, and won't have a problem.
Like I said, I hate change, and crappity, I hate having to muck around in the dashboard trying to remember how to do stuff. Anyway, enough complaining for now. All will be well, I'm sure!

I heard that they are not discontinuing it for blogger -yet. People assume they will eventually, though. This is all in an attempt to force you to join google plus. And so I ask the question - why would I join another google creation if the one I counted on is discontinuing an important part of it? If I join google plus how would I know the same thing won't happen?
I use google reader so I am hoping nothing changes with that - because I can read all the blogs I follow there. I installed the linky one a while back and I followed you from yours!
oh and. I noticed that most of the "followers" on linky are of the "marketing" sort. Not that there's anything wrong with that, but...I like the cozy friend feel of google followers....
Yeah, I heard that Google Followers will continue for Blogger blogs but not for other blogs (wordpress, etc.) I'm just going to take a "wait and see" attitude.
Google, facebook, gmail...I agree with you--pick one & stay with it!!
oh hells bells, I am so confused....it is the same as facebook now showing the world my undergarments, er personal information.....why, do they not understand I'm an old broad with a bad attitude???????? errrrr
Well if google followers is not dropping blogger than that is great. I am not crazy about the Linky follower because apparently it is going to show EVERY blogger who is signed up for it...not just the individual blog followers? Linda, I am so confused now too. Debra, maybe I will just wait and see too. grrrrr.
I think what we don't want to fact, Robin, is that the Internet is no longer for us but for marketers and they have found a way to always be in your face! Facebook is the most invasive. I truly resent the whole world knowing every single thing that I do.
I didn't move from Blogger when I thought I would, so I'm pretty safe, for now! Of course, that will change.
I'm an old lady. I can't keep learning new ways to keep it 'simple.' It's not simple; it's another JOB! In that way, books don't let you down. You can put them on the nightstand and they'll still work the same way in the morning!
I totally agree with everyting you have said, Sharlene! Apparently, FREE isn't really "free" after all. It never is!
Hugs to all!
Kim
I don't like change when it comes to internet and blogs either. But I have Your blog in my favorit site list so I'll always find You anyway :-)
We don't have that on WordPress, people can sign in to follow my blog but it is only I that can see who's following my blog.
Have a great day!
Christer.
Hey Robin! I am confused too my friend. Even though I signed up for linky, I am waiting too, because, as everyone is saying, if you have a blog, I think you will be fine ;o) I agree with you Robin, I don't like that it's going to show every blogger who is signed up! Not good! Maybe we should start up our own thing???? Big Hugs and I better not lose you!
Sheesh!!! Can't they leave well enough alone?
There is lots of misinformation out there .... but i played it safe too with the linky thing but very few people seem to be really using it. I did read google is dropping for all self owned blogs like wordpress and private domain but not blogspot??? who knows..
give me a headache....
