And Now For Something Completely Different

Firstly, Hanukkah Blessings to those that observe this wonderful Festival of Light! May you experience peace and joy during this celebration!

It is less than two weeks away from Yule, the Winter Solstice, the Wiccan/Pagan celebration of Light. And then Christmas a few days later. These are times of preparation, baking, cooking, gift-giving, fun, and observance. Sometimes a bit hectic, time-consuming, wearying (if you let it). Try to find some peaceful moments to reflect on simple things.

Here is something different that I saw in today's paper. Birds-of-Paradise. Not the tropical flower, real birds. The Cornell Lab of Ornithology is launching a website in January, 2013 all about these magnificent birds. I visited the link this morning and was astounded by the short video there that shows a few of the 39 species of Birds-of-Paradise that inhabit New Guinea. If you watched the "Planet Earth" series a few years ago you may have seen some of these birds. There are not enough adjectives to describe these creatures.

If you would like to have a little respite from holiday havoc, here is the link to this 5 minute video. It will "wow" you. Nature is awesome! Have a great Monday!!

Birds of Paradise

(and one of these days I am going to figure out how to imbed a video on my blog!)

My mom sent me this last week. I love this video!! Thanks for sharing, Robin. It's easy to embed, go to YouTube > go to embed >and copy the code for the video. > In Blogger, >switch from compose to > the html window (next to compose in the upper left). > paste the code into your draft where ever > switch back to compose, > then publish and presto, there's your video! :)

What a wonderful way to begin my morning Robin!!! :)
I've seen a program on National Geographic similar to this one in which all of the birds of the rainforest had been documented, and their courting rites...I love birds so it was fascinating to watch, and very spiritual for me as well.
If you ever need help with the imbedding of a video just give me a holler...I'll walk you through it, as it is pretty simple...
Here's to a great week Sister Soul!
Happy Holidays!
Lots O' Love!!!

I agree, they are a beautiful bird. There are so many species out there that many of us know nothing about. I'll have to check out that website.

Birds of Paradise are really beautiful, but to be honest is there any more beautiful bird than a male Red Cardinal? We have the Bullfinch here and It's also one of the most beautiful birds there is :-)

Have a great day!
Christer.

Beautiful! Just what I needed. This month has been nonstop and I foresee the future next few weeks as being the same. I need to stop and take a breath. Thanks for sharing!

Amazing! Thanks for sharing. This video was fascinating. Not only are they truly beautiful, Birds of Paradise really do have an otherworldly look to them - and some very bizarre behaviours! Birds in general are extremely complex & interesting creatures.
