Merry Meet and Merry Part, and Merry Meet again

Seasonal Remarks

I love traditional Christmas carols. Singing them with a bunch of people is fun. Even though I am not Christian, I did grow up that way, and Christmas music was always my favorite at church way back when dinosaurs walked the earth!

However, Christmas music has been playing non-stop in stores and restaurants for days and days now. There are so many versions of the same songs, and to hear most of them over and over is a bit of a downer. A peppy, rocky version of "O Holy Night" is a bit much, don't you think?

Even my favorite Sirius radio, a classical music channel, started playing Christmas music non-stop yesterday. Sigh.

Am I sounding like a Scrooge? Don't mean to. Just a seasonal complaint, kind of like the flu.

Cooler, rain mixed with snow today. So much for the fabulous weather of yesterday. But that is okay; it is weird to have warm weather here in December. It should be snowy! The fire will be so delightful!!

Once again, I would like to recommend this wonderful book by the beloved author, Dorothy Morrison, "Yule A Celebration of Light & Warmth".  Filled with so much good information about this important Sabbat; history and customs, rituals, crafts, recipes and other ideas to observe the Winter Solstice. I love this book.

Thinking about Yule really makes me smile.

Thanks for the book - I'm already signed up for it at my local library. Of course, the books I check out usually raise an eyebrow or two. If anyone really knows me, it's the local librarians.

I feel bad for the people who work in the shops - having to listen to carols all day, non-stop, for weeks on end would be brutal.

Speaking of our "pets" when we were but mere babes, the dinosaurs. GK has a boyfriend, he dedicated a song to her and in the lyrics it says she's...tyranasaurus fly(I suppose that's the biggest fly {cool} a girl can be)... I'm scared.
On to your thoughts of the music....I'm gonna line up right next to you and say, "a little of a good thing is just right". I too enjoy Christmas music but I have to remind myself that this is not the season of Christmas or Yule or Solstice or Winter but greed. So retailers use their sound systems as sales enhancers (or so they think). I mostly listen to my own cd's especially at this time of year and save the radio for the week of.
Our weather is to turn to more appropriate temps this weekend. Too bad, I was kinda enjoying no jacket outside and getting outdoor things done.
Congrats on another BB win from Stacy....S&S Oma Linda

Kinda know what you mean about the music...there was a radio station here that started playing it right after Hallowe'en! Sheesh!!!! I love Christmas Carols as well, having grown up singing them in school and going caroling with friends. But when I get sick of hearing them, I turn on some Trans-Siberian Orchestra (think Pink Floyd doing Christmas Carols) & get a refreshing break.
Soon the dark will begin to turn light and the winter blues will be moving on. {{hugs}}

I too love christmas carols, although when I can find pagan versions, I'm well-pleased. I can still recall the joy & magic of singing in the choir at midnight mass..say what one will, Catholics do great ritual! The book looks like something I could really use this year....I should see about finding a copy.

Enjoy being warm & cozy!

This is too funny - not the post its self but. I this morning I was emailing back and foward with my Friend, who is my teacher/guide for My Year and a Day, that I am working on currently and we starting discussing Yule & Christmas - the differences and similarites. I brought up the fact that Christians say "Christmas Carols" but in the song 'The Christmas Song' it states "Yule-Tide Carols"...in which growing up I always wondered what that ment. haha.

I am infact one of those weird people who identify themselves as a ChristoPagan. and celebrating all makes me enjoy this time of year even more. :) I Also LOVE Dorothy Morrison - Suprisingly, this book is placed on my mantle during the holiday seasons next to my traditional Christmas books. It's a great addition!! :)

Have a Blessed Day!

The christmas music is the same every year and this year I thought to myself, surely not again?! It's funny but my children have grown up knowing it no other way. I think it all started here in the seventies with christmas pop songs taking over the radio. They've never stopped! I wonder what we'd listen to before then, I really can't remember any more. :)

Chaotic here today, some places had gotten 16 inches of snow already at noon and it will continue to snow all night they say and perhaps even longer. The roads are awful, cars are crashing everywhere or drives down in to ditches. It took me an hour to come home today but at least I did come home. So far I think we've only gotten four inches of snow here but I guess we'll get lots more during the night.

They only play a few yule songs on radio so far and it's only the last week before yule that they'll start torturing us with them :-) :-) :-)

Have a great day!
Christer.

Robin,

I have to agree with you about the Christmas music. It starts so early and is played so constantly that it loses it's "specialness" to me. I don't put in on in my car unless it's on a CD, but I have to admit I do enjoy some of the different takes on some of the older songs.

Hope you get some snow and light that fire! Ann

That sure is a great book, isn't it? How are you making out with the kitties and your decorations? I just love those little ones.

I agree! Keep the Christmas music original. We do NOT need to hear the peppy, rockabilly, etc, etc version that has been done. We are under a weather watch right now. Freezing rain. This year we are getting it in the neck with weather!

I love Christmas music, but I am with you, I love the originals! They always make me smile and sing ;o) It's the most wonderful time of the year ;o) No snow here! I heard on the news the other day, a waterfall, that people go to see in Hawaii has dried up! Very scary!!! Big Hugs ;o)

That's the book I typically work from for Yule. Great read!
