Berries, Beetles, Books and (something) BIG

Hot today, but not as bad, I am sure as Colorado. I have been thinking about the people and forests there and in the other states that are burning. So hoping they will get rain and relief sooner than soon.

Walked into the grocery store this morning and all I could smell was strawberries. They must have had a million quarts of the things everywhere. We have been making strawberry daiquiris with fresh strawberries. Tastes so good on the porch in the evening. I don't suppose you can ever get tired of these red gems.

Well, the Japanese beetles have landed. I hate these things with a passion. You never know what they are going to destroy, though they usually wreck havoc with our weeping cherry. One year they ruined the green beans we were growing in the garden, also all the zinnias and the hibiscus. Usually roses are their target, too. But my faithful sparrows in the back garden are making heroic attempts to rid us of the beasties. I don't use chemicals, but I do know there is an organic spray soap-type product that may work.

Staying in the house this afternoon, so books and magazines are on the agenda. I have a bunch of books to tell you about, too; next week.

Got something big happening here on Sunday. Real big! Come visit my blog and you will see.

Have a great Friday.

Don't you just love strawberry season? How is it up there for cantalopes? I'm wondering why I don't see them here in many stores and those that have them are pricing them extremely high.

Oh gosh, I do remember those beetles when I lived in the country. I also remember those little catapillars who weaved their webs in the trees.

You do have nasty pests like the Japanese beetle and stink bugs. Thankfully we have none of those and I guess that's because our long winters kills them. At least one good thing with winter :-)

Have a great day!

Yes, we were 100 yesterday, but today-FINALLY got rain after 3 weeks of zero rain. The robins were estatic, I could tell, as were we! Hoping for another t-storm, as long as it just rains!

I've been picking green worms off my nasturtiums. I check every morning. Darn things!

Good luck with the beetles, Robin!

Sunday is Canada Day ;o) We are 145 years young ;o) Is that the real big thing? I am too excited! Come on, tell us ;o) I can't wait! The bugs are bad here too! I think it's because we didn't have a cold enough winter! When it's a mild winter, the eggs don't get killed and many more bugs for us now! Plus it has been very hot and humid! One of these days I am coming over for a strawberry daiguiri ;o) We have been watching on the news about the people in Colorado too. Poor people! Take Care Robin and I will be seeing you on Sunday ;o) Hugs ;o)

No one ever gets tired of Strawberries. :0)
Thanx for thinking of Colorado and all those affected by the wildfires. ♥ We could really use several days of rain. Last weekend, I had a bit of a scare when one of my sister's called to tell me that a fire had started approx. 15 miles to the north of where they live. The wind sent the fire to the northwest into some uninhabited canyons. But I was a nervous wreck for a day until I had an update. The fire is out now, but it is going to be long summer if this continues.....
