Cunningham, Crone and Cat

Hidey-ho!! Spirits are higher at our home now that my hubby is feeling better. This weekend we are looking forward to a visit from our daughter and her husband to celebrate our delayed Yule/Christmas.

Speaking of Christmas, I had a Barnes & Noble booksellers gift card burning a hole in my pocket. My husband wanted to get out yesterday, so we took a drive to Best Buy first for him, and then to the "library" as we fondly call B&N. I had already used some of the gift card a few days after Christmas, but that remaining balance was haunting me. So to relieve the pressure I simply had to purchase a couple of books (and coffee and a sweet, naturally).

I found a newly released Scott Cunningham book, Magical Sampler, Collected Writings and Spells from the Renowned Wiccan Author with a forward by Raymond Buckland. As I have stated many times on this blog, Scott Cunningham is very special to me; I have developed a large part of my Wiccan Path based on his writings. I am so looking forward to reading this book. If you are interested in learning more about Wicca, Scott Cunningham is the author you must read.

The second book is one that I have seen on several occasions, but never decided to get it, simply because I was put off by the word "crone". That is terrible I know!! I just didn't want to admit to myself that I am in that region of age that categorizes one as Crone. The crone is the third manifestation of the Triple Goddess (Maiden, Mother, Crone) and is regarded highly as a figure of wisdom and insight. Even if I wasn't of an age that qualifies me as Crone, there should be no hesitation to have this book. The book, Crone's Book of Magical Words by Valerie Worth is a beautifully written, poetic collection of spells, incantations, potions and charms drawn from the history of magic. I have read just a couple of the spells so far and am utterly hooked by the beauty, rhythm and meaning of the words. This will be great reading on a dark and snowy night, next to the fire.

Thank you to everyone who have hung in here with me as my family has gone through our crisis. It means a lot to me to have such wonderful people following, and I would also like to welcome all the new followers! You all are terrific. My other blog, PurrrrSnicKitty will be back regularly in a day or two. I am going through a bunch of photos taken over the last few weeks, to pick the best...the cutest...and the very cutest!!

Here is an example:

Pyewacket!! What are you doing on top of the screen door??!!

Well, I think I qualify as a "Crone" now, hmmmmmm. May have to take a gander at both of those books on my Kindle. Will add to list that is intended to expand my mind in my "Crone" years. Love the picture of Pyewacket up on that door. I've got my two "grandkitties" visiting today so there will be some wild shenanigans going on around here! Glad your husband is feeling so much better. Here's to continued progress and less pain in the upcoming months! Ann

I agree -- women must reclaim and embrace the word "crone" and use it proudly!

I bet Pyewacket got up there by climbing up the screen, the little so-and-so!

Glad to hear your husband is feeling a lot better now.

Oh dearest BB, so very glad there is a bounce in your bloggy step. Super happy that Hubby is feeling better and able to get out and do the important fun things. The books are both super, I haven't finished the first but the later is a favorite old friend of mine. And crone is all in the eye of the beholder.....super wonderful.
As to the adorable Pyewacket....might have just levitated up there....they are super kitties after all.
XOXO Oma Linda

The Crone's Book is really great. I bought it years ago and have utilized it a few times since.

What a wonderful post, Robin! I'm so thrilled that hubby is feeling better. I love Cunningham too. While I'm no longer a Wiccan, his books were the ones that resonated with me most when I was. Enjoy!

-4F here this morning but they say it won't be that bad this night. I donä't mind cold weather but that's a bit too cold :-)

Interesting books, can't be found here but I know a book store in Gothenburg that most likely will have them.

My cats have never been able to go up on any door yet and now at least Teodor is to fat to even try :-)

Have a great day!
Christer.
