Full Moon Magick

A muted winter sunrise this morning. Pale streaks of pink amid a white-ish sky. Looking out the kitchen window you can see the coldness. January's Full Moon, as all full moons, has many names, depending on the culture or country. Cold Moon, Wolf Moon, Winter Moon are just a few.

It is doubtful that we will be able to actually see the Full Moon tonight. Obscured by clouds and snowfall most likely. Last night, I looked up into the night sky and there was a blurry, half-glowing shape up there. I assumed it was the Moon. But whether or not the Lovely Lunar Lady is a-sail for us to see, we can certainly feel her Presence.

Just as the moon affects the ocean tides, Wiccans "attune" to this energy, depending on the phase, to work spells, rituals and other tasks. Full Moons are a perfect time to charge tools such as crystals, wands, athames, spring water, candles, the list goes on. Charging simply means infusing power into an object using the Moon's energies. Wiccans are aware and awed by the energies that exist in Nature and learn how to utilize these energies to achieve a goal/result/change. This is primarily the definition of Natural Magick: directing energies to cause a change.

Each phase of the Moon offers energies for specific tasks. Waning or waxing, New Moon, Dark Moon, Full Moon. There are many books that will help the magickal practitioner learn more, but also, it is important to recognize one's own intuitions. Books are terrific guides, practice is the key.

Esbat is the term Wiccans use for the Full Moon ritual/observance. One can have a simple candle meditation or a formal ritual. Working as a Solitary Practitioner of Wicca, I can decide for myself how I wish to honor the Full Moon and the Goddess.

Full Moon magick is a beautiful way to connect with Nature, the Universe and deity.

How will you observe the Full Moon tonight?

I totally live my life by the phases of the Moon. I feel Her all the time. She peeks in our windows, I thank her for her light. Usually the 3 days of the Full Moon I leave what curtains or blinds I can open, even just a crack for her light shines in. I love waking up in the night to see the patterns and her cool light. Tonight we too will have cloud and snow, but the blinds will remain open, we shall welcome Her as we always do!

I will be praying for Mother Earth's waters...and sending healing to them.

Sending best wishes and sisterly hugs Robin!

tonight is a fruition moon for the Cuckoos. the fullness of the moon (we probably won't see her lovely face this evening either) will complete a spell woven for the family. Also we will begin a new work for friends. It is such a joy to do all of this with daughter and granddaughter. It is beyond words. Blessings, Oma Linda

I hope the full moon's energy heals me of this pesky flu virus I got. There is something so magical about the moon.

Cloudy here too and tomorrow snow will arrive so no full moon here either I'm afraid.

Have a great day!

My candle, anointed with sweetgrass oil, will be burning in the window...

(In answer to your question on my blog, the next step will happen in 2-3 weeks.)

I may not be an observer of Wiccan traditions, but I sure love learning about them through your blog and references, Robin. I have always enjoyed the light that comes from a full moon. We have had a clear day here with rain predicted tonight. If the moon is out in all her glory I will raise my face up to soak in her beauty and goodness and hope that we as humans can do a little better than we have been doing lately, in many respects. Most people seem to attribute odd or bad behavior to the full moon, I enjoy the fact that you have attached positive things to it. Ann

I hope we can see the full moon tonight. The night sky has been so beautiful lately. So many stars, planets, and constellations are visible. The Winter sky is so magical!

I saw the full moon on the way to work tonight - It is very clear and cold here - 19 degrees! An owl somewhere in the woods was hooting like crazy, I wonder what he was talking about. Thanks for stopping by my blog. Love, Linda

I made a white cake (with extra powdered sugar). I've eaten every piece wishing for the gentle light of the moon. Jacob ate a large piece and howled *sigh*
