Observing Imbolc and Celebrating Oz

Today is the last day to enter the giveaway on my other blog, PurrrrSnicKitty. Click on the image on my sidebar.

Also on my sidebar, I have added a new image. March 15th is the date for Oma Linda's (OldBaggeandStuftShirtblog) 3rd Annual Celebrate Oz blog party. There are many Oz lovers in the blog-o-sphere and we love getting together to honor all things "Wizard of Oz". This year, Linda is shaking it up a bit by hosting an "Altered Oz" party. What is that, you ask? Altered art, of course. You can do anything you want really. By clicking on the image on my sidebar you can read all the juicy details. Always looking for more participants. Come on, it will be Oz-errific! (did I really say, "oz-errific??!)
Now, this is Altered!!!

Here is a bit of information about Imbolc, the Wiccan sabbat which occurs on February 2nd.  The name, Imbolc, means "in the belly" or "in milk", referring to mother ewes ready to give birth.  So Imbolc is a "pre-Spring" observance. It may still be very cold, snowy, frosty, but Mother Earth also has growing things "in the belly" and soon plants will be bursting out. There is renewed hope, more light every day and thoughts turn to preparing for a new season.  Candles are essential, as burning them in a darkened house represents the light returning. Fix a meal featuring dairy products, referencing "in milk". I personally enjoy cheese souffle.
Imbolc is a marking of the passing of Winter. It is good to look forward to new things and warmer weather.

Thank you for the advertisement and endorsement of all the fun we will be having....
Ozmazing.....reminds me of the movie Pitch Perfect. Have you seen it? Funny show.
And any time you want to post a picture of either you kitties or a lamb (I love lambies) it's fine by me.
Thanks again BB, you're the bestest, Oma Linda

I always think of Imbolc as celebrating, not Spring, but the promise of Spring.

Whose heart doesn't melt looking at that picture of the lamb? Again, you have educated me about another tradition that sounds like a lovely observance of nature's renewal. Your OZ fun sounds, well, fun! I've been seeing huge posters here promoting the new "Oz" movie that comes out soon. Ann

Oh my, Toto is my favorite! I guess he'll do just fine and they reach the Field of Poppies ;-)

I'm making a few candles and some oil lamps to welcome The Return of the Lights. Now, if it would only get warm soon *sigh*

Potato Soup is how we celebrate. And the grands go around turning on every light in the house - which they totally delight in!
