Crystalline Fury

The beauty of a fresh snowfall can not be denied. Trees are festooned with fluffy garlands and houses are painted with frosty brushstrokes. There is a silence that embraces and lulls into a peaceful state. A fresh, crisp smell to the air, offset by the puffs of chimney smoke that rise and fall in the now-gentle winter breeze.

But winter can turn the gentle snowflake into a harsh attack of crystalline fury. Wild winds and icy cold join forces to beat the weary world into submission. Blizzards bring with them a brutal strength that wreaks havoc like no other storm.

To survive and be victorious over weather's attempts to overrule an orderly existence, one must strive to be strong, prepared and patient. Damning the storm serves no purpose. Nature will not be cowed.

And in the end, the sun will shine again, the great banks of snow will recede, melting away, disappearing into ponds and lakes and ground and seas, providing refreshment for plants and animals and humans alike during a hot dry summer.

Nature can punish, but also reward.

Courage and strength to those battling in the Northeast against the blizzard.

Fantastic post. It didn't hit us as hard as expected today, but I was prepared nonetheless. Here in the city just about everyone was this time around.

You have summed it up quite nicely, Robin. Hope you didn't get hit too badly. Ann

I hope to see snow falling one day, but I will always prefer the warmth of sunny bright days :)

When we get big snows the temperatures usually moderate, which is welcome. When the sun comes out in February it gets COLD. brrrrr

You make it sound so - romantic or National Geographic.... We are getting a gentle rain this evening. I would love to have a bit of your snow. Enjoy as much as you can - stay safe & warm.

Yes the snow will melt again unless this isn't the start of a new ice age :-) :-) :-)

I do hope those that lost power have some kind of heater. No fun when the pipes start freezing and breaking if it takes to long to get the power back.

Have a great day!
Christer.

So true. We were very lucky here in our area and missed the brunt of storm Nemo. Winds were very bad but we made it through this one!

Hugs,

Kim

The thought of the sun returning, his warmth kissing my face, and darkening my skin with his touch is what keeps me going and going in the middle of the frigid fury ;-)
