A Close Shave

Shetland Sheepdogs, commonly called Shelties, have a very thick coat. A thick undercoat and a top coat. Perfect for winter around here, not so much in summer. Plus if left unbrushed during hectic times, mats form and the poor dog looks like a homeless orphan.

Our Gwennie was in dire need, so yesterday being the Summer Solstice, what better time to get our girl to the groomers for a summer styling. She feels ten pounds lighter, and is no longer panting because of the heavy hair.

She does NOT look funny. She looks cool, calm and collected.

To us, she looks like a puppy, A sweet face, and a fluffy "fox tail", too.

Unfortunately, the kittens are scared to death of her. She neither looks or smells like herself. As soon as I brought her home yesterday, they took one look, puffed up their tails, arched their backs and then fled to parts unknown. They are still creeping around this morning, taking quick peeks at this strange creature. So funny. Gwennie is rather pleased about the kittens' behavior, as she is not all that fond of them!

I've been thinking of getting Hector shaved too but it's rare that we get that high temperatures that it's needed.

Have a great day!

that is so funny about the kitties! teddy refuses to go to the groomer these days. i snip away at her when i can but she is fussy about any grooming at all. she sure needs to have her belly shaved!

She looks so cute...and the kittens being afraid of her. Little changes are enough to send them in a tizzy. Hoping you are well and hubby continues to improve.

I think Gwennie is adorable with a short do. I just love it when we shave our Ellie May....she looks so cute. She is always a little embarrassed for awhile. Po kitten cats. Our kitty beats up the dog after she gets home...Po Ellie.

Now THAT'S a buzz cut! If I were a kitty, I'd be scared too, LOL!

And P.S. -- love that sun and bee graphic on your sidebar. I'm stealing it.

She looks so precious! Our Tucker goes next Saturday and every time we do this and bring him home, Tor races over thinking its a new dog! So funny about the kitties....who says animals aren't clever?

Happy Super Moon!

Oh honey this makes me sad. I know people think shaving double coated breeds make them cooler, but it does not. Those top hairs reflect heat. Now her skin is unprotected.

You go Gwennie! Any time a pup can get the upper paw with a cat is a good thing! I think you look, quite...young! Yes, young! I bet that feels good. Ann

I need a good buzz cut! It's so hot and humid here! I am sweating typing this! LOL! The air conditioner has been taken out, because of the water proofing being done! Yucky and sticky! Gwennie doesn't even look like the same dog! She does look like a puppy! So cute!! I feel sorry for the kittens! LOL! Big Hugs ;o)
