Swan Update

The perpetrator of the destruction of swan eggs in Manlius, NY has turned himself in. At 23 years old, he has a record of misdemeanors, including alcohol-related crimes. He faces a sentence of up to a year in prison, and possible other sanctions. In 1994, a person was convicted of decapitating a swan at the same pond. Not only did he receive jail time, he was also sentenced to serving 100 hours of community service shoveling manure at the zoo.
$9,000 in reward money was raised for information leading to the arrest and conviction of this latest crime against the swans. Since the perpetrator turned himself in a decision has not been made about the reward . A video surveillance system is being set up this week, services and equipment donated. Also, a 24-hour volunteer citizen watch will be in place, if and when the swans, Manny and Faye have another family on the way.
If there are new eggs, I hope no announcement is made. Let the swans tend their nest in peace, solitude and anonymity.

Thanks for letting us know what has happened. I fretted about those swan eggs so much. It just is such an indicator for our times. Hurting for just ???????? It really makes me uneasy.

Such bad juju will fall upon this hater of our winged ones. I hope he realizes the self destruction he has brought upon himself and changes the view in his eyes and his heart.

Good thing that he turned himself in! Perhaps there is a bit hope for mankind after all.

Have a great day!

Maybe a 'little' bit of conscience there? Glad he turned himself in. Hearing that story really made me wonder about the state of humanity.

Thank you for this update Robin...
I'm so glad for the Swans sake!!!

I hope justice is swift and appropriate in this henous act of cruelty against wildlife.

On a higher note it is good to see this area will be under surviellance, and citizen watch.

Robin, thank you so much for this update. I can only ask "why"? Why do something so terrible to such beautiful creatures that cause us no harm??? So sad~~~

oh dear.. just caught up with the swan story. this is the stuff that is weighing me down lately. I am having a hard time finding hope these days.i know it is out there, but i for one am so disgusted by humanity these days...

my co workers are often unkind and rude, drivers on the road are inconsiderate..everywhere i look in this creepy town it seems the creepy people are multiplying faster than the kind gentle souls... sigh

oh for a wee cottage hidden away in the woods :D
positive thoughts out to you though <3
