Wiccan Rites--A New Daily Ritual

In previous posts on this blog, I have talked about the helpless feeling I have concerning the many world issues that face us. Almost every day a new crisis is in the news. What can one person do? A person like me. We are at the mercy of our politicians, natural disasters and extreme criminals. I cringe when I read the newspaper or hear the daily news. Short of uprooting oneself to move to some isolated and desolate place far from the onslaught of all this, how does one cope with this every day. What can one person do?

Donating regularly to the various causes is one small way; small in that the donations are not very large, at least in my case, but they are heartfelt. Writing letters to the editor of the local newspaper and our local politicians voicing concern or fear or outrage is another way. Not that it will really do anything except to help in the "venting" process.

I have decided that I want to devote a specific time of day, every day to focus on peaceful, healing, positive energies....for the crisis in Japan, the war(s) in Afghanistan, Libya and elsewhere. For all the hatred and violence that is a daily occurrence all over the world. The atrocities in many countries, the starving and poverty-strickened around the world and in our own backyard. There are too many to list, too many to even bear thinking about. But I have to think about it; I will not live like an ostrich with its head in the sand. Not to say that I am going to dwell upon these things to the point of obsession.

I will take one part of my day and devote time to a ritual for healing and peace. Perhaps someone reading this will join me. I know there are people who are already doing this. It could help...it certainly can't hurt.

I just have to do something.

I felt this way after the oil spill and blogged about how my obsession and worry was actually putting negative energy to the situation. I think sending positive energy to situations out of our immediate control is a beautiful way to help in the only way we can.

I think this is a wonderful plan! I think the world needs all the help it can get and it may be a job for "the big guys" in spirit. Having said that, however, I am also an advocate of being an example. If you notice, everyone these days is a follower - instead of doing their own thing, they copy the latest celebrity, etc. Everyone dresses the same, hairstyles are the same, use the same slang, blah blah blah. But on the upside, that means that if one sets a tone and others follow, it can become a trend. So I think that we should live well, honestly and maybe even turn off the television. I'm not suggesting we put our heads in the sand, but let's not allow the slanted media view influence us - become our "truths." Change really does start at home, in small ways. If everyone made a point to live ethically, kindly, surely it would have an effect on others, one person at a time, perhaps, but it has to start somewhere, some time.

So it's like a spell - we ask the powers that be for help, but then we set the wheels in motion.

I do this everyday and so does my mom ;o) I think it would help, if everyone joined in ;o) As you said, it certainly can't hurt! Take Care ;o)

After the gulf spill, my family joined in putting our hands in a bowl of water to join with Mother Earth and think healing thoughts. We have continued that as part of our weekly thankfulness ritual..every Monday morning....but I'm thinking you're right on here. I will join with you and I'll use my bowl because I have just become overwhelmed by all of this (as well as family things). THank you for bringing this up.....yay for us. The Olde Bagg, Linda

I totally agree, Robin. Sending out our positive energy into a world which is so troubled and full of negativity makes perfect sense to me. It can only help - never hurt!

Thank you for the inspiration!

Blessings,

Kim

I think this is a wonderful idea. As someone who's quite spiritually lazy I really should take a leaf out of your book!

Have definitely been thinking of something of this sort myself...and not just for humans. I recently joined in a fight against animal cruelty (on a specific case) and so see a lot of new cases through my Facebook news feeds and it just makes me hate humanity as a whole sometimes...

Since the 1940s, international healing thoughts and prayers have been offered by anyone wishing to participate (either for healing or sending healing) at noon (for five minutes) and eight pm (for five minutes). I learned of this through the life stories of Ambrose and Olga Worrall, the Mystic with the Healing Hands.

Sit quietly in the room and focus on offering up your prayers. You will feel the world connection like a full thromming through your body, which simply quiets after five minutes. I'm sure there are many participants (myself, included) who are currently praying for all the victims of our most painful tragedies.

Come visit when you can.

I do this as well. I have found it also helps to center me and put my own thoughts and feelings into perspective.
