June, The Moon and Blooms

So, now it is hotter than Hades!!  Is there any pleasing us?  I don't think so. But at least it is not snowing!  Here is a pretty pot of petunias. It is enjoyable to look at while waiting for numerous seeds and plantlings to zoom up. Herbs and lettuces are on the agenda today.  Herbs for both culinary and magickal purposes.  Lettuces for lovely salads and sandwiches, and also for Ringo, the canary. He gobbles up romaine faster than you can give it to him. I think it makes him sing louder! He has also been competing with the wild goldfinches in the song department.

Tonight is what I call Dark Night. The Moon is zero percent of full. One of those time between times. Not a good time for the usual magickal workings, really. Though some practitioners use this time to work with the goddess Hecate, dark goddess of the crossroads. Dark does not necessarily mean evil or negative. Intention is the key word here. I do not work magick on Dark Night, but I do like to take the opportunity think over the past month, think about the coming month; this is about all things magickal. If the weather is right even a small fire in the pit.

Almost forgot: Happy first day of June. The month of roses! Litha is just three weeks away. The midsummer celebration (if you start counting down from Beltane in May...this would be mid-summer) of Litha is a perfect time for being outdoors, blessing the gardens, celebrating the "fullness" of summer. Bonfires, campfires and great cookouts! More on Litha as time goes on.

Okie doke, back to work. Super day to you!

"What is one to say about June, the time of perfect young summer, the fulfillment of the promise of the earlier months, and with as yet no sign to remind one that its fresh young beauty will ever fade."

I remember those striped petunias from when I was a child, my grandmother always had them in her garden :-) Then they disappeared for many, many years and now they are back again :-)

My brother once had a canary that couldn´t sing at all. It sounded more like a long burp when he started. For some reason he was named Devil after the Phantoms wolf :-) :-) :-)

Last night was cloudy so I couldn´t see that we couldn´t see any moon :-)

Have a great day!
Christer.

LOL! Christer: the burping canary, poor little fella. I got those petunias because they reminded me of petunias from way long ago.

Robin, your petunias are beautiful and Ringo is a little jewel! I have never done magical workings during the dark moon either but I have read part of a book by Ann Moura where she explains much as you did that dark is not necessarily bad, etc. Very interesting information. Happy and blessed week to you as well, my dear friend. - Mina

Robin, the book I spoke of is called, "Green Witchcraft II - Balancing Light and Shadow" by Ann Moura. It is truly a treasure.
