The Price was Right

Once in a while a bit of serendipity comes my way. I have to thank my brother for this one. During his daily bike ride, he took a shortcut through some nearby apartments and spotted something. The apartments have garage-type buildings with big openings that house dumpsters for the residents. He pedaled home in a hurry and told me he found something I might like. He described it to me. Hmmm, let's go take a look, I thought to myself. Hopping into Beatrix, my wonderful little car, I zoomed (carefully) to the apartments and smiled. Look what has found a home with us.

A curio cabinet in excellent condition. Made of solid wood, it has four glass shelves, a mirrored back, and a light that actually works. Why would someone toss this?

It fits beautifully into the space next to my desk (and please, do not observe the mess there).
It has no scratches, dings, scrapes or chips. The shelves are in perfect condition, the mirrored back is fine. It was barely dusty. Just gave it a quick windex-ing, burned some sage and sweet grass inside and said  a spell to banish any negative energies. Placed some of my treasures inside.
Here it is with the light on.  I am really pleased about this wonderful curio cabinet. And it was free. Amazing what people will throw away. I am looking forward to decorating it for the various seasons and holidays.

Have you found a great treasure?

WOW!! Awesome find Robin. I'm sure it was just meant for you! It's the perfect fit!! And Yes, you wonder why some things get tossed. My husband has been a picker for over 50 yrs. and once he even found a brand-new Rolex in the box!!

What a great find!! I never find anything in dumpsters than things that really belong there :-) :-) :-)

But something in the back of my head says its illegal to pick things from dumpsters over here. Something about that anything in a dumpster belongs to the garbage company. But I´m not sure that´s true to be honest.

Have a great day!
Christer.

Maybe they thought someone would come along and adopt it? I'm going to lean toward that idea because, wow :), it really is a beautiful and wonderful piece! Congratulations on such magical find. :)

What a great find. It's so mind boggling, why do people throw away perfectly good things. Now their loss is your gain ; )
Have a magical day.

Many years ago, I found a full sterling silver meat platter with two side vegetable dishes and covers. The only thing wrong was that it hadn't been polished! (Which may be the reason it was thrown away!). But, it's a beautiful piece.

Wow, great for you Robin! Your brother has a good eye! Beautiful cabinet! If I didn't want that, I would drop it off at a thrift shop, not throw it out! Crazy people!

Oh, I love treasure! What a great find!

Recently I found two treasures left behind in my house. In the basement I found an old weathered wooden cabinet which I took upstairs and cleaned and now it is a odd and wonderful piece. I also found (inside the cabinet) and old oil lamp, which I keep near my ancestor pictures because I suspect it was owned by "the lady of the house"

Very nice, good work! I have looked around for something like that but they are too expensive. From the description this one sounds like a very fine and expensive peice. Why would anyone throw it away?
