Views and News

Our beautiful autumn-blooming clematis "Sweet Autumn" is enhancing the view on our front porch. Loaded with buds and lightly scented flowers, it is creeping and climbing and wrapping itself around pots of impatiens, railings and anything else it can grip. We planted it last summer and this is the first blooming. Such a thing of beauty as other plants are fading.

News stories that have grabbed my attention and prayers:

The two American hikers being held in Iran for the last two years were released finally. $500,000 "bail" each was paid. Sounds like a ransom. They were more like hostages then prisoners. Thankfully and at long last they are out of there. Travelers should really think more than twice before venturing into some places.

Can Japan take any more storms? Hit with a typhoon yesterday, the country has not yet recovered from the quake and tsunami and recent storms.

The execution of Troy Davis in Georgia has me wringing my hands. With much doubt cast as to the testimonies of witnesses and on other evidence, how can someone be put to death? There are many websites where you can read about this if you are unfamiliar with the story. Just google Troy Davis.

And now a satellite will be plummeting to Earth sometime between today (Sept 22) and Saturday (Sept 24). NASA says they cannot predict when or where it will crash to Earth, but expect it most likely to break up somewhere over one of the oceans. I would keep an eye to the sky if I were you over the next few days. Duck and cover might be a good thing to keep in mind.

Well, that is it for me. Hope all is well in your world.

I don't watch the news. It makes me want to hide in a basement. I know this is immature and probably irresponsible, but I just can't handle all that bad news. Maybe if it could be balanced by uplifting stories as well.

Lovely plant...I can't get them to grow here...not enough water or wrong planting place or something but yours is wonderful.

As to the news....me too. I wring my hands alot. And then I have to cast it away because I could get caught up in the emotion of all of it and be lost.

I was telling the grands about the space junk falling and Ry told me we should go get our bike riding helmets on if we go outside this weekend. As if, right? Didn't have the heart to explain the pieces could be big. He is so sweet, and thought filled.

I like the duck and cover thoughts. I'll wish you clear skys and a wonderful Mabon. Oma Linda

Personally,as someone who has worked in the field of criminal justice, I have never been for the death penalty. Firstly. witnesses can lie and evidence can be tampered with. And secondly, I believe, for those guilty of these heinous crimes, the death penalty is too easy. Let them suffer for the rest of their lives.

I must admit that I am with Dark Mother and the others when it comes to the news. We do not watch the news on TV nor do we even own a newspaper. Usually, I hear all I need to at work from the talk radio station that my 70 year-old co-worker insists upon making us all listen to all day every day.

Trust me, that is more than enough for me! ;)

Plus, my husband is constantly on his computer reading the news there instead, so I get info from him as well. I get too emotional and disgusted with it all really. There are times when I am actually glad that I work all day so I don't worry so much, you know?

Blessings to you.

Beautiful clematis!

What gave those two bikers the idea that it would be great to bike through Iran? It is like tha dansih family that was warned not to sail close to Yemen, naturally they got kidnapped! But I´m glad that they now are out of prison, the bikers that is.

I´ve just seen some about Troy Davies but it seems that he was innocent since lots of those giving evidence has changed their minds.

I wish You a great day despite what's happening in the world!
Christer.

I'm with the Dark Mother. The news drives me nuts. I let friends and family filter things out for me. Okay, so they insist on filtering stuff out for me because if they don't, then I spent days pissed. The world is such a horrid place sometimes. But there is the beauty too *goes and looks at your flower pics and feels better*

I don't ignore things, that would be silly, but sometimes I wish I didn't have to worry about how bad things will be in the news.

Anyhoo, enough rambling. Happy Autumnal Equinox! May all our positive wishes turn into loving future news.

Oh, I have to say it helps me a lot to see that my daughter and I are not alone. I have been trying not to watch too much news ... stick to the BBC and that helps, even though I'm in Florida. I've said it before and I'll say it again, for the most part pagans are the sweetest, kindness, spiritually evolved folks. But, that sounds self-righteous and I don't really mean to. Love and Light to all...and happiness abundance to !

Robin, I love the pictures of your blooming clematis! Beautiful! We have friends who live in Japan. They are strong people, but it's true, I don't know how much more they can handle. Troy Davis, I don't know what to say. Sad, very sad. I heard about the satellite too! Crazy! You take care of yourself! I don't want to hear of any else happening to you! Hugs ;o)
