Samhain is just around the corner. October 31st is also known as Halloween. But it is much more than just a Trick or Treat day for Wiccans and Pagans. Also called the Last Harvest, it is the last sacred observance of the Wheel of the Year. A time to connect with The Ancestors and to honor and remember our loved ones who have passed through the Veil.

Setting up an altar or other special display that includes symbols of the Season, the Harvest, candles, incense, special mementos and photos of those loved ones. It is also the time to say a farewell to the Year, a time for reflection and meditation and to begin preparations for the Dark part of the year, as the days grow shorter. It is not all somber and sad. And most Wiccans celebrate with all the decorations and fun of traditional Halloween Hoopla! A time to "get your Spooky on", so to speak.

Blessings of the Season.

love the phrase "time to get your spooky on". I also love your pumpkin. Hmmmmmmm, maybe I'll borrow that idea. Yep, it's stolen for sure.

I've never been one to get into the spooky side, even as a child, but I love the spirit of Samhain. Did you know that there are some Pagan paths that actually don't celebrate it until November? Based on archeoastronomy, Samhain would be Nov. 6th this year. Interesting stuff, but hard to get one's head around if we're accustomed to something more 'traditional'.

I understand what you are saying...

I realize now..that the reason I have always been so in love with the "traditional" side of Halloween is because when I was younger I'd stare up at the moon, close my eyes, and dream of witches and spirits, and the dead walking among the living on that evening. It wasn't because of the dressing up and the trick or treat part, or even being scared. It was believing that that was the night we could contact the other side. It was so fascinating and now since thats what I practice...and since I am now into Sahmain, the day has so much more meaning for me! :)

I wish we had something to celebrate here this time of year, well I guess Wiccans do but not the rest of us. Late October and November is just so dark and gloomy that we need something :-)

Have a great day!
